What Brought Me Here
The long path to becoming a bankruptcy lawyer began as I grew up in a very blue collar household about a half-hour north of Seattle. My father worked quite hard at his job and my mother worked extremely hard raising two very mischievous and dirty boys.
As a child I rarely worried too much about my parents’ finances. We lived comfortably and my parents were careful with money and saved. However, at times, my parents had money troubles. They saved us from worrying about it but sometimes I could tell, and I worried about it quite a bit.
When I came back to Seattle as a full-fledged attorney, business law rather than bankruptcy, was my initial expertise. As I worked in numerous firms around Bellevue, Seattle, Everett, and Tacoma during the financial melt-down (where finding legal jobs was nearly impossible for any new lawyer), I learned bankruptcy law from several smaller practitioners in the area. When I finally decided I wanted my own law firm where I could make the rules and beat other firms by offering better customer service, fair prices, and no hourly rates, bankruptcy was almost automatic as an area of law that I wanted to serve. As a business and estate planning attorney, knowing bankruptcy law is an incredible advantage in being able to advise clients on the financial benefits.
As a bankruptcy attorney I have the honor and pleasure of helping clients get out of debt. We sit down and talk for a bit and people can get extremely emotional over their situation, and rightfully so. Tears have sprouted on more than one occasion. My goal, every time I meet a client for a debt consultation, is to make sure the person leaves confident and fearless that a solution is available, and ready for them when they decide the time is right.
Bankruptcy has become incredibly successful for me and remains the largest area of my business because I empathize with the situation and my clients appreciate the extra work I put into their case. I want my clients to love me, and I work hard every day to give them the best legal experience.
